Power Reading: building access to books
The branch is continuing its Power Reading work with community partners, helping young people connect with books and literacy support.
What is happening now
At this time, Corpus Christi Independent School District will accept donated books after each school’s librarians review them to confirm that the books are not on the district’s ban list.
The branch has distributed books to the YWCA for its literacy program, which has recently begun and is currently serving a small number of students. The branch plans to distribute more books to the YWCA next week and will share additional program photos as that work continues.
Next step with West Oso ISD
The branch has received approval to distribute books through West Oso ISD. A meeting with West Oso ISD librarians is scheduled for October 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. to discuss the distribution process.
Additional participation, donation, and registration details will be shared when the branch confirms them.
Why this matters
Reading access supports comprehension, confidence, and the ability to participate fully in school and community life. Power Reading brings that work into partnership with local institutions so that books reach young people through trusted literacy channels.
